Hair extensions are popular among women because they are the quickest way to get longer, luscious, and thicker hair. They are available in multiple types, shades, lengths, and volume options. No matter what type of hair extensions you choose, it’s crucial to ensure they’re made of real human hair. Otherwise, they wouldn’t look entirely natural or blend properly with your hair.
Even the best hair extensions have to replaced, especially if you want to avoid sad, scraggly strands. How often you have to replace hair extensions come down to which kind you have: Fusion extensions (every 3-4 months), tape-in hair extensions (4-8 weeks), or hand-tied extensions (3-4 months).

You should only ever wash your hair and extensions with lukewarm water. Once your hair extensions are wet, use 2 – 3 pumps of a sulfate-free shampoo to wash your hair. Be careful that you don't wash the hair too vigorously, especially near the bonds or clip.

Once you receive your hair extensions:

  • We suggest that you have your stylist trim the ends, especially if you plan on doing a lot of heat styling. Hot tools can contribute to split ends, shortening the life of your extensions.
  • Shampoo and condition weekly to maintain softness and manageability.
  • It is suggested that you visit your stylist regularly to have your hair and hair extensions shampooed, especially when wearing a sewn-in installation. It is critical that hair is properly cleansed and dried.
  • Hair extensions should not be handled rigorously and should always be shampooed in a downward motion.
  • Keep styling products to a minimum to prevent weighing down the hair.

  • Do hair extensions damage your hair?

When properly installed, taken care of and removed using the best practices with the recommended product and tools, the chances of damage to the natural hair reduce drastically and can be avoided all around.
In order to add drastic length with hair extensions, we recommend that the hair is past the occipital bone. If the hair is not past the occipital bone, it’s nearly impossible to achieve a desired blend. Why? If there is not enough length to the natural hair, there is no room to texture or blend the hair extensions.
Depending on the purpose of install, the packs needed may vary. For added volume or a pop of color, it comes down to preference. When adding length to the natural hair, the hair extensions will need to match the density of the natural hair and will vary per each head.
